Arguably sending traffic several miles out of the way to reach Evesham is a botch too, but it's presumably intentional to reduce right turns onto the A46 at Sedgeberrow.Richard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 22:07 Spotted this last weekend. (It's the same from all three directions.)

You would hope that the sign designer would stop and consider that, given that two of the directions are B4077 and B4078, the third one is probably not the A4078.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Ugh. Neither of those is right. The flag signs should be in the appropriate colour for the road they point down - in this case, black on white - with the motorway number in brackets and on a blue patch. The word "motorway" shouldn't appear at all.wallmeerkat wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 09:01Should a motorway as a primary destination on a blue sign have the motorway name

Are you a sign installer who struggles to remember which way up an advance notice of a Give Way sign should go? Hedge your bets and have one pointing up and the other pointing down!

Re: Botched Roadsigns
What makes it even more strange is that a sign of this design was first installed in 2016 and it did get it right, but it then seems to have been replaced with another new sign a short time later, with B4078 substituted with A4078 (destinations have changed on other arms, but that particular arm only required a direct copy and they failed to do that...)Richard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 22:07 Spotted this last weekend. 1. Why are Ascot and Slough in a white panel on a green sign? It's a non-primary route - surely the whole sign should be white?
2. Why doesn't Ascot Racecourse have a pictogram (there's a racecourse one in TSRGD) when the other destinations do?
3. Why does the mystery castle not have a name when the other destinations do?
4. Why is the Heatherwood Hospital type larger than Ascot, Slough etc.?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
The sign describing a restriction on "all routes south of Windsor" is weird too - there must be a better way of doing that. As currently worded it would appear to suggest the restriction applies to the M3, the N13 near Bayeux and a number of roads in the northern part of AlgeriaRichard_Fairhurst wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 20:38I think the work experience boy must have been left to do that roundabout.

Those yellow "merge ahead" signs are awful as well, as are the "get in lane" ones in the other direction. Also someone doesn't know what way up a give way sign should be!Chris5156 wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 21:52The sign describing a restriction on "all routes south of Windsor" is weird too - there must be a better way of doing that. Never seen a No right turn for 2 miles before, strange considering there are no gaps in the central reservation either. There used to be an end sign as well.

No gaps in the central reservation. Try no gaps in the crash barrier.MotorwayGuy wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 22:05 Never seen a No right turn for 2 miles before, strange considering there are no gaps in the central reservation either. There used to be an end sign as well.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
Spotted this one on the M6 southbound a few times in the last few months. I'm amazed that a sign with a typo in it can get approved without somebody pointing out the problem.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
What is the typo. All the words seems correctly spelt to me.6637 wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 03:39 Spotted this one on the M6 southbound a few times in the last few months. I'm amazed that a sign with a typo in it can get approved without somebody pointing out the problem.

Peninsular is apparently describing something shaped like a peninsula.

Peninsula is the noun, peninsular is the adjective - as in the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, which sailed to the (Iberian) Peninsula and the Orient.Big L wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 21:00Peninsulas.Truvelo wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 20:56What is the typo. The plural of peninsula is peninsulas (no "r"). You can't pluralise an adjective in English, so "peninsulars" isn't a word. Or at least, it's a very obscure one - Britannica claims it means "any of the colonial residents of Latin America from the 16th through the early 19th centuries who had been born in Spain", which isn't relevant to a modern British road sign!

At least they used the correct spelling on the sign at the roundabout.SteelCamel wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 21:23 The plural of peninsula is peninsulas (no "r"). Re: Botched Roadsigns
This sign was replaced a few years ago to include Thanet Parkway, but why is A299 and A256 in brackets? The scaling and alignment seem off as well, looking back, the previous sign also contained the same errors. This one, replaced at the same time also has scaling issues. Also this sign has Hospital No A&E when it does in fact, and always has had an A&E. It appears to have been covered over but has partially come off. I'm not sure why it's even on this sign, as is not signed anywhere else here and the first mention of it on that route is here.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
That's the first time I've seen two fonts on the same sign. If there's a bad font then the whole sign is written in it.

Seeing Futura on a sign is rare as well, usually dodgy signs are fully in Helvetica.

Kent County Council just love their erroneous brackets.......MotorwayGuy wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 22:43 This sign was replaced a few years ago to include Thanet Parkway, but why is A299 and A256 in brackets?
