Falkirk Gateway A9/A904

Post by rileyrob »

Drove through Falkirk today for the first time in a few weeks, and there seem to be a lot of works going on on the A904 between the Stadium and M9. It was getting dark, but it looked like they were dualling the A904, enlarging the Westfield Roundabout, and dualling the A9 past the stadium as well. There were signs up about the Falkirk Gateway project, but the project website doesn't say much about the roads. https://www.falkirkgateway.co.uk/ The map on the proposals page looks like there is a new roundabout a little to the north on the A9 as well, with the A9 also being dualled between it and the A904.

From the SABRE Wiki: A904 :

The A904 runs along the south bank of the River Forth, heading upstream from the Forth Road Bridge to reach Falkirk.

The road starts off at a roundabout over the A9000 at the southern end of the Forth Road Bridge, where the B800 (former A8000) joins it from the east. The section from here to the junction with the M9 near Philpstoun used to be quite busy, as it was one of the main routes for traffic coming south over the Forth on the Bridge, and then heading

I'd like more details too. I'd be against the development unless road capacity on A904 is increased and pedestrian crossings of the A9 and A904 are improved.

There is also an issue with lack of parking for the Helix and Kelpies. I think I recall the council partially funding improvement to parking at the stadium on the condition that it could be used for the Helix and Kelpies but this seems not to be the case when there are events on at the stadium, including during the day when there is an evening concert.

Some of this is outdated. They're not building those crazy Westfield Rbt bridges for instance. https://www.falkirk.gov.uk/news/article.aspx?aid=7564

I see NMUs are relegated back to look both ways and pray crossings. Really what we should be building in 2024, that.

I took a few photos today of the slow progress being made on this project.

There are a couple more photos in the A904 Gallery
