As you can see, the M6 has been completed across the Cumberland gap and runs all the way to Glasgow! This section of A74(M) was one of the first to be constructed, so gives a clear idea of what the authorities had in mind

Eddy died and, Gene Vincent was injured. The taxi driver got 6 months and a 15 year ban.

There will be a spur from Vicarage Road (the present A58), which will be numbered A599. The current A58 between this spur and the East Lancs Road junction i presume will be stopped up

The bend has been widened to S3 and, the S3 up to Shap seems to start much further down the hill than it does now, by the layby. Possibly a Rover 2000 or a Ford Classic in nearer layby, which is also wider than in the 50's. Very quiet on this day.
